field trip!

Growing up, I’ve always loved field trips. The opportunity to break out of the routine, miss a whole day of school, and do something fun and (hopefully, for the teachers, at least) learn something, was something I always looked forward to. Well, that, recess, and lunchtime were things I looked forward to as well! The number of field trips seemed to drop suddenly once I left elementary school, so for my high school years, I had this void of lack of field trips! Haha! Well, now that I have kids of my own, field trips are back! Yay!

This past week, I got to take my daughter (and son, who tagged along for the ride!) to a field trip at a pumpkin patch in Langley, BC.  It was a first for all of us!  My daughter’s first field trip; my first field trip as a parent; and it was my son’s first tag-along field trip.  As for visiting a pumpkin patch, this would be our second time.

Us being city slickers, we needed some adjusting to the… er… aromas of farm life.  We never quite got over it, but still had a great time checking out the farm animals, which included pigs, llamas, goats, chickens, bunnies, some animal that I have no idea what it is, and this HUGE white cow:

The image tells you nothing about the scale, but this thing was massive: all I could think about was how many juicy steaks this cow would end up making…  I bet it could feed me for years!

We actually arrived quite a bit earlier than the school bus that carried the rest of the kids in the class so we saw everything the farm had to offer by the time they arrived.  As a result, we got to go on the hayride twice!  The hayride took us on a tour of the entire farm and stops at the pumpkin patch where all of the kids had a chance to pick a choice of their pumpkins.  Here’s what the kids ended up with:

A parent who volunteers should be riding on the bus helping with the supervision. Did you just get a free trip to the pumpkin patch for you and your son? lol
Sounds like you had a great time as a parent. Time to join the PAC!

You mean I could’ve gotten in for free??? I had to pay for myself! Good thing kids 3 & under are free!

In any case, the volunteer driver for overflow bus students gig was pretty fun anyways.
